Saf-T-Kut’s Compression Ring Cutter is the fastest and easiest way to remove brass compression rings from copper piping. It’s small and easy-to-handle tool can fit into tight spaces (unlike sleeve pullers) and make quick work of an otherwise difficult ring removal. This method assures no damage is made to the copper pipe and that there will be no mushrooming at the end of the copper pipes. To use the compression ring cutter make sure to first unfurl and remove all existing water shadows and/ or angle stops from the copper piping. Then push the existing compression nut back until the brass compression ring is exposed. After that, place the pipe insert of the compression ring cutter into the copper pipe. However, you do need to makes sure that the copper pipe is reamed properly per plumbing code. If the copper pipe is correctly, then simple turn the splitter head of the compression ring cutter clockwise until it is finger tight. After your fingers cannot turn the splitter head anymore, take a pair of pliers and, with little turns, turn the splitter head clockwise until a snap is heard. Do not tighten past the point of that snap otherwise it could cause damage to the copper pipe and/or break the compression ring cutter itself. Lastly, loosen the splitter bit, and then remove the existing compression nut and brass ring. The compression ring cutter works as advertised and is both very well engineered and durable. Best of all, it is done in seconds, fits into tight spaces, and does not damage the copper tubing!
